September 01, 2008 | ScottishPower | +34,4% gas, +9.4% electricity | Citing the familiar wholesale price increase argument, ScottishPower became nearly the last of the major UK energy suppliers to announce a shockingly high price increase, which will see ScottishPower customers pay more than a third more for their gas, and 9.4% on electricity. |
August 29, 2008 | NPower | +26% gas, +14% electricity | Npower have released the details of their price increase, set at 26% for gas and 14% for electricity. Npower is the last of the 'big 6' supplier to announce a large increase, blaming the cost of wholesale energy. |
| August 21, 2008 | ScottishPower | Price Reduction for Price Fix October 2009 | ScottishPower have announced a price reduction in its current Fixed Price 2009 tariff. The reduction is worth about ?60 per annum on average. ScottishPower's move highlights the fact that there currently is a market opportunity for attractively priced Capped deals - a market from which most suppliers have withdrawn. The offer benefits all ScottishPower customers who have signed up to this tariff during the pre-registration phase. The reduction applies to the ONLINE version of the tariff. This tariff is available to new customers of ScottishPower only. |
| August 21, 2008 | E.ON | +26% gas, +16% electricity | E.ON has announced massive price increases of 16% on electricity and 26% on gas, effectively imediately. To mitigate the blow to the UK's energy consumers, E.ON has also launched a number of new Price Freeze tariffs. E.ON's move follows in the footsteps of EDF Energy and British Gas who announced strong increases last month. |
| August 15, 2008 | British Gas | effective withdrawal of Click Energy 5 tariff | British Gas today asked to remove its popular Click Energy 5 tariff from signup. The tariff is still being shown for comparison purposes at British Gas' demand. British Gas' move follows a week after a similar decision over its Fixed Price 2011 tariff. The tariff may still be available directly from British Gas on its own website. |
| August 11, 2008 | ScottishPower | ScottishPower reintroduces Capped Rate | ScottishPower today reintroduced its popular Capped Rate - a tariff whose rate is fixed until 30th of September 2008. ScottishPower's move does alleviate some fears that energy suppliers may be withdrawing its more attractive offers from the market, as a reaction to the ongoing turmoil surrounding domestic energy prices. |
| August 08. 2008 | British Gas | effective withdrawal of Fixed Price 2011 capped tariff | British Gas effectively ended taking on more customers on its remaining 3 year Fixed Price product due to overwhelming demand. The tariff, which is heavily marketed by the company, was available for just one week. British Gas' decision follows the overnight decision by E.ON to pull its own 2009 Capped price tariff after being inundated by demand. The tariff may still be available for a short time from British Gas directly. We recommend that energy consumers who have now missed the best capped rates sign up to the cheapest deal available, and to keep close track of their energy consumption and any price change announcements. Suppliers may in the coming months reintroduce new capped rates. |
| July 30, 2008 | British Gas | +35% gas, +9% electricity | British Gas today announced a record breaking price increase of 35% on gas and 9% on electricity. The price increase affects all of British Gas's standard, as well as Green energy prices with immediate effect. Click Energy 5 has not been affected by this announcement. British Gas is also removing its Fixed Price 2009 tariff, which will be replaced with a costlier Fixed Price 2011 product. |
| July 29. 2008 | ScottishPower | Withdrawal of PriceGuarantee tariff | ScottishPower today announced the immediate withdrawal of its current 2009 Price Guarantee offer. ScottishPower is the second supplier to withdraw their capped rates this month, further pointing to a tightening of market conditions for the UK consumer. Customers should take advantage of the remaining capped offers with British Gas and E.ON immediately to avoid massive accross the board price increases. |
| July 25, 2008 | EDF Energy | +22% gas, + 17% electricity | EDF Energy is announcing today (25th July) an increase in its energy prices of 17% for electricity and 22% for gas, effective from 25 July 2008. EDF's move is likely to be mimicked by most other supplier in the coming days. |
| July 22, 2008 | E.ON | Replacement of Pricefreeze tariffs | E.ON has today withdrawn its two price guarantee tariffs, EnergySaver v3 and PriceProtection v16. The tariffs have been replaced with more expensive versions. Both tariffs offers a price protection guarantees until October 1st, 2009. We encourage all consumers to strongly consider signing up to tariffs which offer price guarantees. Although these tariffs might cost a premium of up to 20% compared to the cheapest discount tariffs, these extra costs will be more than made up for by impending price increases on gas and electricity, which could total more than 50% by the first quarter of next year. Simply run a search on our service, then click the 'PriceFreeze' button to see all of the tariffs that offer a capped price guarantee. |
